The Ribbon Cutting was a Huge Success!

Ag_Pic_NewAt El Capitan High School in Lakeside, the much anticipated Agricultural Complex has been completed, featuring a state-of-the-art greenhouse and a large storage building for farm equipment and supplies. The two barns will feature housing for chickens, pigs, sheep, goats and steers; interior hay storage; an animal birthing house for pigs; interior and exterior animal pens; a wash area for the animals and two arenas. The existing Agricultural building has been modernized to include classrooms and a shop teaching area. The new Agricultural Complex includes a three-classroom building and computer lab. The community is invited to a ribbon cutting and dedication of the facility on Tuesday, October 9, at 4 pm.

San Diego County Fair Awards

Planet_Pandora_Ag_WinnersCongratulations to our FFA Student Landscape Stars!

Our "Welcome to Planet Pandora" Landscape won first place at the Del Mar Fair. In addition, our students won the Outstanding Student Landscape Award for the San Diego County Fair and also the Best Youth Garden Award from the San Diego Horticultural Society. This adds up to $750 in awards for our chapter!

Two weeks ago, the team started with only a 20ft x 16ft plot of dirt. From there, 14 El Cap FFA students helped to build a tropical landscape (complete with a fully functional waterfall/stream, Avatar pathway and special effects), in order to produce our very own "Cosmic Space."

Congratulations to our FFA Stars!

Come See The AG Fair May 13th - 20th!

The Eastern San Diego County Junior Fair is right around the corner!

This year will be another exciting year, because our El Capitan FFA students have a brand new Agricultural Department with State of the Art equipment including our brand new wash rack!

While at the fair, don’t forget to savor our favorite mouth-watering traditions like slack sandwiches and amazing, creamy and delicious fair ice cream. Come experience the hustle and bustle of the early morning feeding, cleaning and of course the smell of animals, dirt, dust and shavings!

With such a competitive chapter this year, these will be shows that you don’t want to miss!  We encourage all of the El Capitan teachers and students to cruise down and walk around the fair and see the many different projects, animals, and exhibits.  At the local fair we have a variety of different projects.  In the home arts building we have many things from cookies to oat hay, pictures, to mecha
nics and from quilts to flowers. In our barn we have swine (pigs), lambs and goats, dairy cows and heifers, and steers.

Our chapter members have spent many countless hours working with their animals to do the best they can in the show! We are very proud of our dedicated, hardworking, responsible and respectful FFA kids and want to thank all of the contributors that have helped to make this another outstanding year!
