v What’s FAFSA?

FAFSA is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid and on January 1, the FAFSA will be open for application submission. All seniors must fill this form out in order to be eligible for financial aid, cal grants, loans and many scholarships. Please see http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/contact.htm for a downloadable worksheet and http://www.fafsa.ed.gov to apply! Remember, you cannot submit your application until January 1, but the sooner you get the application in, the better chance you’ll have to get $$.

v How do I obtain my PIN to file my FAFSA application?

Seniors and their parents should be signing up to get their PIN number in early December to make submitting the FAFSA easier and quicker. The PIN is used to electronically sign the FAFSA when it’s complete on the internet. It’s safer and much easier than mailing in a signature page. To do this, see: www.pin.ed.gov

v What if I need additional help?

There are many free workshops available if you need additional help filling out the FAFSA – see: http://www.californiacashforcollege.org for workshop dates and times.

v Is there any help at El Capitan?

We have a Financial Aid Workshop for El Capitan seniors and parents in

mid January of each year. Check back to see details for next year, or look

at the school’s bulletin.

v Where can we find out about scholarships?

The guidance office has many scholarship applications available to students, please have your student come by and pick up some scholarship applications. A very comprehensive and large database of scholarships is www.fastweb.com. It’s a good place to start as well.
